Farewell 2020, hello 2021!

As we close off this tumultuous year, we cannot help but let out a sigh of relief that we are finally in Phase 3 where our lives are almost back to normal. All hail the vaccines in 2021!

This year has played out so differently from the ones before. We spent 2018 and 2019 participating in various pop up events every month - from large ones like Boutique Fairs and Conscious Festival, to cosy events organised at various hoods around Singapore. It was so much fun meeting and making new friends with the greater community, both customers and fellow small business entrepreneurs alike! 2020 has been a rather lonely year but we are heartened by all of you who still made your way to our Beauty Kitchen to purchase, refill products, drop off recycled packaging and just chatted with us! =)

Many of you have asked me why we started OASIS, and how do we see this small indie brand standing up against the big international brands with marketing budgets that will make our eyes water. There is no fancy statement like "I am here to change the world". Here is the short and simple truth to why we started OASIS. We believe that people should have more ways to consume better. Choosing products that are much simpler, of better quality, and positive for the environment.

When we opened the Beauty Kitchen store at CT Hub 2, we wanted to provide a way for all of you to reuse your containers, refill with however much you need, and recycle your boxes and packing material. Since we started our recycled packaging programme, we have probably reused 150-200 boxes every month plus recycled bubble wrap, donated by all of you! It warms the cockles of our hearts to see some of you lugging bags of boxes saved from your other deliveries, just because you want to give them a second life to be reused. It takes true dedication, and we applaud your efforts to do your part!! These humble recyclables do not appear picture perfect in unboxing videos, but they serve their purpose of protecting the goods inside, and can be reused over and over again without adding to our landfills/incineration plants.

I am now aware that I have dragged on for way longer than I initially planned (this is the same at the shop when I engage in conversation with some of you!!) I guess what I am trying to say is that OASIS is still a brand that is work in progress, managed by people who might not get things right and we are trying our best - but we are here as a part of a small but growing retail revolution with sustainability at the core of what we do.

We have exciting expansion plans for 2021, and will soon be coming to a hood that is not just rich in heritage but also home to a community of other small local businesses. We can't wait to share more details with you soon!

Here is wishing you a great close to 2020 and a better tomorrow in 2021. Happy New Year everyone!

With love,

Hildra & Philippe
